Cast iron inoculation - during pouring operation from tiltable inoculant container with oxygen blast nozzle

Molten cast iron is inoculated with an additive which is added at a uniform rate to the iron as it flows from a taphole or spout during a pouring operation. Oxygen is blown against the pouring irong during, and also before and after, the inoculating process. This results in favourable conditions for the formation of extraneous seed crystals and for the pptn. of oxide particles in the jet and in the ladle. The oxygen blast intensifies this effect. The container for the inoculating agent is equipped with an oxygen spray nozzle. The inoculant is pref. added to the pouring iron at 200mm. from the ladle spout.
