The rivet is similar to a conventional blind river, and consists of a sleeve (30) with a collar in which a shaft (24) with an enlarged head (21) is mounted. The shaft is locally reduced in section (23) so that it will break at that point when the shaft is pulled. The enlarged head is in the shape of a drill bit with two cutting edges. The diameter of the drill bit is equal to the diameter of the rivet sleeve. The shaft has two flat faces (26) which are parallel to one another. The hole through the rivet sleeve also has two flat faces which lie against those on the shaft, so that the sleeve rotates with the shaft during drilling.
