Forming clay building blocks coated with sand - having a hand made appearance

Clay blocks are preformed and coated with sand. The block is then placed in a recess in a form with flat sides using fixed guides. The guides form hollows in the sides of the block so that in the mould they touch the sides evenly at all points. The blocks have the appearance of hand-made material. If the sides are not allowed they tend to be flattened when the form is filled. This destracts from the hand made appearance.
