1381216 Microimage readers NCR CORP 2 July 1973 [14 July 1972] 31402/73 Heading G2J In a microimage reader the image carrier and part of the reader form two co-operating members, one having a positioning means co-operating with an array of positioning means on the other, such that movement of the carrier can be effected in a stepwise manner. As shown, the microimage carrier 33 has a portion 34 carrying a series of microimages 35, one of which is brought below a lens assembly 30 for projection on to a screen. Contiguous with the portion 34 is a positioning portion formed by upper and lower plate members 36 and 39, the latter having an array of rounded projections 37 formed on the underside. These projections are arranged in columns and rows corresponding to the columns and rows of the microimages 35. A rail 45 is secured to the table 20 on which the apparatus stands, and defines the X direction of movement. A groove 48 runs along the length of the rail, and receives a row of projections 37. When such a row is seated in groove 48, the carrier 33 is restrained from free horizontal movement in the Y direction, but can slide in the X direction. When it is desired to move carrier 33 in the Y direction, a slight force applied to the handle 38 lifts the row of projections 37 from the groove 48 and enables another row to be brought into engagement with the groove. Thus the carrier is easily slidable in the X direction, but moves only in controlled steps in the Y direction.
|
