Movement of an image support F carrying a plurality of spaced visual images B past a display station H causes, through a direct mechanical link, corresponding movement of an audio pick-up head over an audio record A to select one of a plurality of recorded messages, and a student's response in depressing one of a plurality of keys in a responder mechanism G determines the extent of the next movement (or prevents such movement) of the image support F by the interaction of the responder G with a portion of the image support F carrying code elements E which may take the form, as shown, of holes and slots of different lengths. The turn-table carries cams which ensure that the pick-up is lifted and the turn-table stopped after each revolution (Figs. 7 and 9), and the pick-up is lifted also (Fig. 8) when the housing of the apparatus is opened to permit loading of a record A into a tray which lowers the record on to the turn-table when a rockably mounted locating pin (99, Fig. 6) finds an aperture in the record. |
