摘要 1432653 Magnetic storage arrangements PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Aug 1973 [2 Sept 1972] 40832/73 Heading H3B A magnetic sheet Z, Fig. 1, has two propagation paths A, B for domains arranged sufficiently adjacent over a portion of their lengths that domains in one path A are propelled by the repulsive forces of driven domains in the other path B. The repulsively-propelled domains take up positions approximately equidistant from the driven domains, as shown, driving being effected by a synchronous combination of a domain generator C and a domain destructor G. In a modification, Fig. 2, both the driven and repulsively-propelled domain paths J, I are closed loops including domain generation and destruction units H1, L, a drive unit H, and a domain detector L. This arrangement is equivalent to a pair of gear-wheels, the relative lengths of the two closed paths determining the ratio between a complete rotation of a driven domain and a complete rotation of a repulsively propelled domain. In a modification of Fig. 1, some of the domains from a generator C, Fig. 3, may be routed into a propagation path D by switches E and F so as to by-pass the interacting portions of paths A and B. A logic arrangement is shown in Fig. 4 in which domains in a path A2 are normally propelled into a path A3 by domains driven in a closed loop path B2 by a drive unit H2. A single domain is also repulsively propelled in a closed loop path Q by the domains in path B2, and whenever this single domain passes a detector K a switch E2 becomes operative to divert the propelled domains from paths A2-A3 to paths A2-A4. A three stage counter is shown in Fig. 5 in which driven domains in a closed loop path B3 propel a single domain in a closed loop path Q1. Each time the single domain becomes adjacent a larger loop path B4 it moves the domains therein forward by one domain location, which in turn similarly displaces a repulsively-coupled single domain in a path Q2. A further reduction stage comprises the combination of path Q2 with paths B5 and Q3. A domain transportation system is described, Fig. 6, in which domains representing the digits "1" and "0" respectively move along paths S1, S2 due to interaction with driven domains in closed loop paths B6, B7. The pattern in paths S1, S2 may be made visible by translating the information content into a pattern of domains moved along paths PL2-PL11, Fig. 7, by a continuous series of driven domains in a path PL1, the Kerr effect being used for viewing. The propagation path may be a continuous permalloy overlay, and in Fig. 8 this overlay is width varied to provide, with an adjacent driven domain, a rest position for a propelled domain where the changes of width have the same taper, and a unidirectional propagation direction when adjacent changes of width have substantially different tapers. Details of the switch used in Figs. 3 and 4 are shown in Fig. 9, the path 2 or 3 followed by a domain 5 being determined by the direction of current in a conductor 11.
