1399566 Laminated metal-plastics tapes NORTHERN ELECTRIC CO Ltd 10 April 1973 [10 April 1972] 17248/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for guiding and aligning two advancing tapes 10, 12 comprises a guide member 18 having side walls defining first and second paths one above the other, the guide member being supported for lateral movement. Tape 10 may be a relatively rigid metal tape which is unwound from a spool and heated before entering the guide member, the tape 12 being a relatively flimsy, adhesive plastics tape which, when superimposed on the tape 10 downstream of the guide member, is laminated thereto, the laminate being subsequently cooled and wound upon a driven spool. The tape 12 is guided through an enclosed passageway 44 pressurized air being applied to the top and bottom surfaces of the tape in the passageway to prevent contact between the tape and passageway walls. The tape 10 is guided through an open passageway 46, lateral movements in the running tape 10 causing the guide member to slide on its mounting shaft 36, thus maintaining the tape 12 in registry with the tape 10. The top wall 56 of the passageway 44 is in the form of a hinged lid. The tape 12 may be narrower than tape 10 and a second metal tape may be laminated to the plastics tape-metal tape laminate. |
