<p>1339274 Heat-producing scouring powder UNILEVER Ltd 15 Nov 1971 [18 Nov 1970] 54791/70 Heading C5D A substantially dry particulate abrasive cleaning composition adapted to evolve heat when admixed with water, comprises at least 50% by wt. of finely-divided abrasive material and 0À5 to 10% by wt. of at least one anionic or nonionic detergent, the evolution of heat being caused by the presence in the cleaning composition of a chemical compound (A) in anhydrous form that hydrates exothermically on contact with water and the anhydrous chemical compound is present in an amount sufficient to ensure that the temperature rise that occurs during the mixing of 3 parts by wt. of the cleaning composition with 1 part by wt. of water is at least 10‹ C. but not greater than 50‹ C. The compound (A) may be (1) an alkaline earth metal halide, e.g. CaCl 2 and MgCl 2 ; (2) an alkali metal hydroxide, e.g. NaOH and KOH; (3) alkali metal salts of ortho silicates and sesquisilicates, aluminium sulphate and ferric chloride. The composition contains up to 99% wt. of an abrasive such as felspar, pumice, bentonite, talc or finely divided synthetic resin, e.g. polyethylene. Other ingredients are (B) alkali metal phosphates, polyphosphates, carbonates, bicarbonates, sesquicarbonates, borates and silicates, (C) chlorine bleaching agents (inorganic and organic), sodium perborate, sodium percarbonate and potassium monopersulphate, (D) inorganic fillers, sequestrants, anticaking agents and the like. The compound (A) may be coated with a nonionic surfactant, e.g. coconut monoethanolamide, a fatty acid, paraffin wax or a mineral oil.</p> |
