A method for treating arthritis which comprises administering to a subject in need of such treatment an effective amount of a fusidic acid derivative selected from compounds of the formula I: I in which R1 stands for a straight or branched alkyl radical having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and pharmaceutically acceptable, non-toxic salts and easily hydrolyzable esters thereof, and salts of such esters. The pure diastereomers as well as mixtures thereof may be used in carrying out the invention.
