<p>Modified, water-dilutable polymer oil imides carrying COOH gps. are made by reacting alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic acid (anhydrides), esp. maleic anhydride, opt. mixed with alpha,beta-unsatd. monocarboxylic acids and/or (half) esters and/or (half) imides of these acids, with COOH-free alkene polymer oils. The prods. are made using alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic acid imides as starting materials and/or by introducing imide gps. into the reaction prod. such that the polymer oil imides contain 2.0-3.5, esp. 2.4-3.0 milliequivalents (meq)/g. COOH gp. and 0.3-2.0, esp. 0.6-1.4 meq/g imide gp., whereby of 100 meq COOH gp. + imide gp., 10-40 meq., esp. 20-30 meq. is imide gp. Prods. may be used esp. as electrophoretic coating resins giving good corrosion protection, which can be applied at high voltages and high temps.</p> |
