<p>Antibiotic compsns. for oral administration contain >=20 wt.% of a phosphomycin-type antibiotic and 0.1-5 (pref. 0.2-2) pts. wt. of urea per pt. wt. of antibiotic. The compsns. dissolve rapidly in gastric juices, giving blood and urine levels of the antibiotic comparable with those obtained by intramuscular injection of the antibiotic alone. The antibiotic is pref. phosphomycin (I), i.e. (-) (IR, 2S)-1,2-epoxypropyl-&phosphonic acid, or its Na or Ca salt. The compsns. pref. contain 20-60 wt.% urea and 1-30 (pref. 10) wt.% of lysine, proline, hydroxyproline or serine or their salts. They can be formulated as tablets (250-2000 mg), capsules or syrups.</p> |
