<p>Prodn. of methane-rish gas from waste materials esp. domestic refuse, after sorting and top. comminution, involves gasification with oxygen and steam under pressure. The hot prod. gas is treated to remove dust and used to generate steam, followed by sepn. of condensate and removal of acid components e.g. CO2H2S, and HCN. The steam generated is pref. superheated and under 6-8 bar pressure, and at least part is used in the gas generator. The gas is pref. cooled in the waste heat boiler to 290-300K, and then cooled to 223K for removal of CO2 and H2S by washing with organic solvent. The gas produced contains a high proportions of CH4, and is generated by a continuous process under pressure, which simplifies the purificn. process and allows the CH4 to be fed into the natural gas system. The process can be economically integrated with an air sepn. plant.</p> |
