<p>The cable joint, for joining a heating cable (3) embedded in a concrete airport runway etc. to a supply cable, consists of a tubular housing (24) with the heating cable entering at one end, and the supply cable and earthing cable (6) for the heating cable's outer metal sheat entering at the other. The ends of both cables are bared and the diameter of the heating cable's heating conductor (17) is brought up to the diameter of the supply cable's conductor (10) by a metal cap or thimble (16) fitting over its end. A metal tube (18) connects the cable ends and the housing is then filled with a suitable resin (23). The heating cable's inner conductor and earthed outer sheath are separated by ceramic (4).</p> |
