The grid has a number of upright supports (1a) which are spaced equi-distantly across the grid. These support the cross plates (2a). The cross plates are keyed in to the upright supports through slots. The top faces of both members and plates are flush. The grid may be let into a road or floor. Each plate is furnished with equi-distant studs. Each stud consists of a punched hole in the plate with the punch hole (6) causing a mound in the plate. The punching is covered with a flat washer in order to achieve a flat surface.
