<p>The tread band has an elastomer-base structure which takes advantage of centrifugal force. Pref. the elastomer used has an alveolar structure, and may or may not be filled with fibrils. The tread band is used for fast vehicles and racing vehicles, allowing a reduction in the dia. of the tyres, with greater resistance to abrasion and improved cooling effect. For dry roads, the tread band consists of closed-cell rubber opt. reinforced with disperse fibres of B, C, glass or metal; centrifugal force maintains the cells inflated except where point pressure is applied. For wet roads, it consists of open-cell or semi-open-cell rubber reinforced with fibres with drainage tubes or cavities connected to the surface by the pores for heavy showers.</p> |
