A locking mechanism for flap windows or doors has adjustable closing pressure. The mechanism is also the seating arrangement for the flap. A frame has a locking element fixed to the leg by screws. In the upper part of the locking element a groove runs perpendicularly and symmetrically to the centreline. The groove is flanked by two protrusions with bottom ends carrying sloped surfaces directed towards the sides. The groove acts as a rest for a vertically insertable element and represents the locking zone. The locking element carries in its lower part the tilting zone providing the seating. Between the locking and tilting zones the locking element is provided with a lateral retracting zone for the vertically slidable element.
