1,170,500. Washing raw wool. VEPA A.G. 29 Dec., 1967 [1 Feb., 1967], No. 58990/67. Heading D1L. Loose raw wool is fed along an endless permeable conveyor belt 1 which is formed into at least one trough 3 (two as shown) by a corresponding pair of discs 2 on a common shaft, liquid being supplied to the trough, and maintained therein at a predetermined level, from a tank 10 having a perforated bottom. After passage through the wool, the liquid is collected in a V-shaped container 4 (Fig. 2) arranged beneath the troughs and having a worm screw (6) for removing collected sludge. The liquid can be recycled. The base of each trough lies just below the liquid level in the collecting container 4. The liquid level should be not less than 20 mm. and not more than 1000 mm above the material layer, and is preferably 200 mm thereabove. As the material 9 passes from one trough to the next, or from the final trough it passes between the nip of a pair of squeeze rollers 12.
|
