The axial flow turbine has a housing with stator blade assembly and a rotor with two-level blades of which one level serves the forward run. Variable entry blades permit shut-off of the flow, this level being coupled to the reversing stage formed by the other blade level (20). The inner dia. of the reversing stage is greater than the outer dia. of the forward stage. The stages are coupled by a cylindrical element with windows co-axial with the rotor and upstream of the stator assembly. The inner dia. of this element is equal to the outer dia. of the forward stage. The element has a cover sleeve around its periphery capable of covering the windows and the sleeve is movable radially between a position on the outer dia. of the reversing stage and a position on that of the forward stage.
