<p>The scatterer facilitates even spreading of sand, thawing-salt, or other bulk material, by hand, where large-scale mechanical distribution is not permissible, because of confined spaces, as on paths in parks or gardens, to avoid damage to plants. It is inexpensive enough for private household use. It comprises a beaker or box-shaped container with a flat bottom. It is open on the scattering side, and has a handle on the opposite side. On the scattering side there is also a distribution surface, bordering the bottom with perforations in it. It may widen in cross-section towards the direction of spreading, and may be semicircular or rectangular. There may be a protective projection near the top.</p> |
