The current limiting switch has a movable contact and fixed contacts connected to the supply leads. The switch has an arc extinguishing chamber and electrodynamic operating device for the movable contact with a coil generating a mechanical control pulse. The switches movable parts (10, 16) are connected through one way gears (14, 22) to the actuator (12). These transmit the mechanical control pulse in the contact (16, 18, 20) opening sense directly to the movable parts (10, 16). The gears (14, 22) have a shock absorber effective in the opposite, contact closing sense.
