The telescopically extendible platform stage is assessable by means of a variable-width upper cantilever arm. It has mutually movable parts brought out into the operative position when the platform is extended. Here the adjustable cantilever arms (25) controllably coupled to one of the lower platforms steps by means of the adjusting mechanism (27.34). A shears-type hinge lever system may provide the coupling with the cantilever arm which can swing upwards. The cantilever arm is returned to the rest position as soon as the lower steps are retracted.
