Distillation of a liq., e.g. water, by evapn. is accomplished by passing the exhaust steam from a turbine into an evaporator. The steam produced in the evaporator is passed into a condenser. Cooling water is fed into the condenser, according to the quantity of distilled water required, from the main cooling water inlet on a by-pass principle, the heated water being returned to the cooling water supply. All cooling water flows to the main condenser which condenses the exhaust steam from the turbine not flowing to the evaporator. Condensate produced in this main condenser can be used as the make-up to the water circulation system of the evaporator. Thus the total quantity of cooling water required for the condensers remains the same no matter what rate of distilled water is produced. Used for the prodn. of distilled make-up water in power stations and process industries. Allows the quantity of distilled water produced to be regulated without disturbing the operation of the turbine. Because the evaporation-condensation takes place at low temps. the risks of corrosion are limited.
|
