1475149 Fabric softening composition COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 29 May 1974 [4 June 1973] 23820/74 Heading D1P [Also in Division C5] A fabric-softening composition having whitening properties comprises a cationic fabric softener and a perphthalic acid in the weight ratio of 4:1 to 1:1 of softener:perphthalic acid. The softener may be a quaternary, e.g. distearyl dimethyl ammonium chloride or an imidazolinium salt and may be ethoxylated. The acid is preferably diisoperphthalic acid and may be encapsulated in hydrated magnesium sulphate as granules. The compositions are compatible with anionics and nonionics and may be added to wash water, or may be applied to fabrics in a final rinse during laundering or as a separate softening operation. Fabrics of cotton, rayon, cellulose acetate, nylon, silk, wool, polyethylene terephthalate, or acrylic fabrics or blends, e.g. cotton/ polyester optionally with a permanent press finish may be treated. |
