1426154 Bearings BORG-WARNER CORP 5 April 1974 [21 May 1973] 15289/74 Heading F2A In a rolling bearing assembly comprising a housing 12, an inner race 24, and an outer race 28 constructed of two parts joined together, a locking pin 40 is situated in an opening 38 in the outer race, the pin having enlarged terminal portions 42, 43 and a reduced waist portion 41; the housing has a recess 44 for receiving one terminal portion 42, and the outer race opening 38 has a complementary shape to the waist portion and the other terminal portion of the pin, whereby the pin effectively limits relative rotation between the outer race and housing. The waist portion of the pin may be cylindrical or conical. The pin is of a ductile metal or of PFTE, and may be constructed as a blind rivet. The bearing is held in the housing by means of a ring member 20 and a snap ring 22; alternatively the housing is split. The outer race parts may together define the opening 38, and may be welded together with the pin in place. |
