A solid electrolyte comprising a 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane-base charge transfer complex which contains a quaternary nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound, the hydrogen at N-position of the heterocyclic compound being substituted by an alkyl group, an alkylene group or a cycloalkyl group. The electrolyte may further comprise a minor amount of a polymer for improving a film-forming property of the charge transfer complex and adherence of the complex to electrodes solid electrolytic capacitors using the above-mentioned complex are also disclosed.
