摘要 <p>1448698 Agglomerating fine particles CANADIAN PATENTS & DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 1 Oct 1973 [5 Oct 1972] 45830/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division C4] A process for forming agglomerates from finely divided particles in a two-phase liquid system comprises (a) suspending the particles to be agglomerated in a first liquid which is lyophobic with respect to the particles; (b) adding to this suspension a second or bridging liquid immiscible therewith which liquid is lyophilic with respect to the particles, the bridging liquid being itself chemically reactive with the particles or containing a reagent which is chemically reactive with the particles to form a reaction product that is a bonding material between the particles; (c) agitating the multi-phase system and continuing such agitation until the finely divided particles are formed into agglomerates; (d) discontinuing the agitation and allowing the chemical reaction to proceed and (e) separating the agglomerates from the first liquid and drying. Agglomerates of alumina were made by adding to a suspension of Al 2 O 3 in chloroform as the first liquid a solution of HNO 3 containing aluminium nitrate in water as the second liquid and stirring the mixture for 6 hours, after standing at room temperature for 5 days agglomerates of Al 2 O 3 were separated by decantation and drying. Examples are also given of the formation of agglomerates of quicklime and iron mine tailings containing oxides and sulphides using appropriate liquid media and reactive components.</p>
