1407415 Copolymerization of mono-olefins and conjucated diolefins SNAMPROGETTI SpA 24 Nov 1972 [26 Nov 1971] 54524/72 Heading C3P A copolymer is produced by copolymerizing a system of monomers each containing at least 4 carbon atoms which consists of one or more mono-olefins and one or more conjugated diolefins in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) a compound of the formula AlR 2 X where X is halogen and R is a C 1 -C 10 saturated hydrocarbon radical and (b) a halo derivative of an inorganic acid having the formula Z n MX m Y p where X is an element of Groups 5-7 of the Periodic Table or uranium; n and m are positive integers, p is zero or an integer such that 2n + m + p is equal to the valency of M, Z is O or S, X is halogen and Y is an organic radical. The monomers may be isobutene, methyl butene or methyl pentene with isoprene, butadiene or dimethyl butadiene. In the examples isobutene and isoprene are copolymerized in methylchloride using AlEt 2 Cl, AlEt 2 Br, AlEt 2 I or Al(isoBu) 2 Cl with one of SO 2 Cl 2 , SOCl 2 , CrO 2 Cl 2 , VOCl 3 , VO(OnC 4 H 9 ).Cl 2 or VO(OC 2 H 5 )- 2 Cl and the polymerization is stopped by the addition of methanol. The butyl rubber product is vulcanized. The Specification refers to 1,407,417 and 1,407,418.
|
