A method for liquefying natural gas or similar supplied to the consumer from the main, consists of using the heat drop occurring from adiabatic expansion of the base load supply to the consumer for cooling the gas liquefaction process; three parallel lines lead from the main to the consumer; the middle line passes through a number of heat exchangers in series and an expansion machine, while the third line passes through some of the heat exchangers in contraflow, then through a Thomson-Joule valve to liquefy the gas, a storage vessel to a draw-off point; the first line, used for peak supply, passes at its outlet to the consumer to a regulator, and before this through a heat exchanger which is connected in parallel to the first heat exchanger of the second line through a boiler for heating the gas, this boiler being supplied from the storage vessel.
