The spar (3) is made from an extrusion and is shaped externally for the most advantageous aerodynamic shape. The inside of the spar is designed to take the second element (16) which is essentially Y shaped. This element slides into the spar. The two arms of the Y are fitted into grooves in the spar (8,9). The buff ropes fit into the grooves (R1,R2) which are equidistant on either side of the centreline. The sails can be changed by hoisting or setting one sail before lowering the sail set in the other groove.
