<p>The die has a conical inlet leading to a non-circular bore which forms the required profile on the extruded part. The bore possesses parallel axial sides with a significant axial length, esp. on those parts of the bore furthest away from the axis of the bore. In dies with a rectangular bore, the short sides of the bore pref. have no taper, and the parallel sides of the bore are pref. >=10 (>=20) mm long. The rectangular bore may have no chamfers, or chamfers may be provided on part of the long sides of the bore. Used for extruding flat strip with rectangular cross-section 25 x 5 mm to 100 x 10 mm, made of Al clad with Cu. A uniform extrusion pressure is maintained over the entire cross-section so cracks in the Cu cladding on the short sides of the strip are prevented.</p> |
