Mould with steam injection facilities, e.g. for moulding expandable polystyrene beads, where part or all of the mould cavity walls are made of a porous material, esp. sintered metal sheet backed by suitable local support blocks. The steam (or hot air) is admitted via the porous wall zones. Esp. for large mouldings, or mouldings with narrow cavity sections, or mouldings bearing inscriptions in light relief formed by carved or indented characters on the mould walls. Steam admitted more uniformly than when isolated injection nozzles mounted flush with the mould wall surfaces are used, in particular turbulent swirl patterns in material near such nozzles are avoided. |
