<p>The screen for cables which are insulated by a coating of thermoplastics or crosslinked (co)polyethylene, is a coating that contains a conductive filler and has been fused into the insulation. This semiconductive compsn, comprises >=1 (co)polymer based on acrylic acid or an acrylate, butene-1, propylene, vinylacetate or a vinylether. Esp. suitable are ethylene terpolymers e.g., those with styrene, a carboxylic acid, CO, cyclopentene or-hexene, or vinylchloride. The compsn. also contains a resin based on unsaturated hydrocarbons, softening temp. 7-200 degrees C. Conductivity of the prod. is obtd. by addn. of soot, graphite and/or metal powders, depending on the intended applications. Generally, soot and/or graphite are used where specific resistance of 10-1000 ohm.cm. are acceptable. For lower resistances, metal powder fillers are advantageously used, esp. Ag-plated Cu-powder.</p> |
