A method is described for inspecting the surface state of metallised components, e.g. molybdenum-coated components. The following tests are performed in order to define the quality of a component and to decide whether or not it is acceptable: (a) the mean number of platelets per millimeter of thickness of the deposit (x), (b) the mean thickness of the platelets (y), (c) the mean index of disorder or the number of intersections per millimeter between the platelets and a line parallel to their mean orientation (z). Values x,y,z are then fixed as a function of the criteria of the desired qualities. Components are then rejected if x,y,z lie outside the following limits: x X, y > Y, z Z. In the case of nolybdenum coated steel locking rings for gear boxes, the limiting values of x, y, and z are : X between 70 and 90, Y between 0.015 and 0.01 mm, Z between 40 and 60.
|
