Radial piston type hydraulic pump - has non return valves immediately on outlet of cylinders at discharge commencement

The pump has a cylinder block (4) which is driven round a stationary valve hub (3). The cylinders in the block contain pistons which press against an outer stationary guide ring (8). This is eccentric to the axis and causes the pistons to reciprocate. The valve hub has an inlet passage (10) communicating with a radial opening (12) which the ends of the cylinders pass as the cylinder block revolves. A discharge passage communicating with several radial openings (24) leads to a discharge valve. The radial passages which the cylinders pass at the commencement of discharge have ball non-return valves which are held in a valve block (20) within the hub.
