The separator for mixed solid particulate materials comprises in combination, a laminar member having a raised input region for the materials and a relatively lower output region, the member having a plurality of riffles disposed upon the upper surface thereof, and means for oscillating the member whilst admitting irrigating liquid near the input region, whereby the riffles progressively capture and retain a substantial proportion of the heavier components of the materials whilst a substantial proportion of the lighter components of the materials is progressively washed clear of the member at the output region.
