Shock absorbing friction plate coupling - uses steel ring with radial holes to improve cooling and capacity

The coupling consists of a flat steel ring and two plates which are mounted either side of this ring. Friction pads are mounted on the two plates. The central ring is coupled via springs to a splined hub. The springs take up any shock loading. The coupling is normally engaged as the coupling ring is pressed by a spring disc against the rings with friction pads and the central steel ring. To disengage the coupling, a coupling hub is pressed against the centre section of the spring disc and releases the pressure of this disc against the coupling rings.
