Transfer dye printing process - uses controlled vacuum pressure to allow use of temperatures below softening point of synthetic fibres in fabric

Process for dyeing and printing woven and knitwear by a transfer action, where the material is composed (partly) of synthetic fibres, by the application of heat to evaporate the dyestuff on a carrier paper for transfer to the fabric. The printing paper is placed in contact with the fabric and passed into the gap between the mantle of a heated drum and an impermeable continuous belting passing partially round it. The underpressure in this gap zone is regulated according to the rate of dyestuff diffusion, and reduced to the point where the colour travels from the carrier paper to the fabric at a temp. which is below the softening temp. of the synthetic fibres passing round the drum. The process allows transfer printing of synthetic fibres as the control of underpressure and heat ensure that the dyestuff travels from the carrier to the fabric, without the character of the material being damaged by the process.
