Plastic heating pipe for under floor heating - is held on cross bars by flexible metallic tube for freedom of expansion

A structural floor slab (3) has a layer of thermal and acoustic insulation (2) above it with a vapour barrier (4) on top of it. The heating pipes (5) are laid in a coil formation on top of this and are placed loosely within an outer flexible metallic tube (6). The floor screed (12) is poured over them to give sufficient cover. The metal tube can be corrugated bellows type which is flexible radially and capable of elongation axially. The looseness of the heating pipes within the outer tube gives it freedom to expand without imposing stresses on the floor finish. The tubes are fixed to cross bars (11) at intervals along the floor.
