The switch is used as a rocker, steering column, or rotary switch and contains latching cams, connected to sprung latching elements. It has a switching contact (1) which can assume serveral latched positions. Along the switching contact moving path are mounted magnetic poles (6, 7) in the housing, facing the magnetic poles (4, 5) of the switching contact. Preferably permanent magnets are mounted in the housing in such alignment that they have alternating polarity along the switching contact path. Magnetic field strength regions of variable magnitude may be arranged along this path. The poles of the switching contact may be also arranged with alternating polarity.
