1474765 Engine turning gear KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A G 8 May 1974 [10 May 1973] 20337/74 Heading F1K In a device for starting aircraft engines 1, 2 with the aid of a starting motor 14, e.g. an auxiliary gas turbine, the motor is connected to each engine via over running clutches 15 and 17 or 18, and hydrodynamic transmissions, 3, 4, e.g. hydraulic couplings or convertors in parallel with the clutches 17 and 18, the filling of the couplings being controlled via pumps 21, 22 driven by the starter motor, and by control valves 25, 26 which, above a predetermined speed, restrict the torque transmitted by the hydraulic couplings, e.g. for protection when one engine is started by another after failure during flight. Each valve 25, 26 comprises a spring-loaded hollow control slide valve (33), Fig. 2 (not shown), loaded by the pump output at one end against the spring force, and having a throttling bore (38) at that end to connect the pump output via the valve and control parts (41) to the couplings or exhaust. A rotary valve (47), Fig. 3, (not shown), may control the throttling orifice (38) to compensate automatically for viscosity variations with temperature. |
