<p>1474833 Resonant cavities ATOMIC ENERGY OF CANADA Ltd 17 July 1975 [18 Nov 1974] 30027/75 Heading H1W Apparatus for tracking the resonant frequency of a high power liquid cooled cavity structure includes first and second reference cavities turned to frequencies below and above the said resonant frequency, respectively, and provided with means for maintaining a first wall portion of each of the reference cavities at a first temperature, and a second wall portion of each of the cavities at a second temperature. As described, each reference cavity is provided with two independent liquid heat-exchange conduits e.g. in Fig. 2 the cavity 13, having input port 18, an opening 19 for a measurement probe, and a fine tuning screw 17, has a fluid conduit 20 for wall 11, and a conduit 21, 22, 23 for wall 15. In the tracking apparatus e.g. for monitoring the source exciting the high power cavity structure of a particle accelerator and maintaining it at the resonant frequency-a small fraction of the source output is fed equally to the two reference cavities. Any difference in the power levels in the reference cavities is employed to adjust the source frequency, approximate compensation for temperature change of the high power cavity structure being obtained by feeding the coolant of the latter through one conduit of the two reference cavities before, and through the other conduit of two reference cavities after, its passage through the cooling system of the high power cavity structure. Fig. 1 shows a structurally combined pair of cavities 2 and 21 having fluid conduits 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and 6, 6<SP>1</SP>.</p> |
