1474465 Recovering sulphur dioxide BOLIDEN AB 11 Oct 1974 [15 Oct 1973] 44063/74 Heading C1A Sulphur dioxide is recovered from gas containing it by washing the gas with water (which may contain citrate) to absorb the SO 2 , stripping the absorbed SO 2 in a stripping column at below atmospheric pressure and at 15-98‹ C. by introduction of steam, cooling the moist SO 2 gas, e.g. to 0-10‹ C., to condense water, drying the SO 2 with H 2 SO 4 , and condensing the SO 2 by cooling in a heat exchanger, the whole system being kept at sub-atmospheric pressure by pumping off the residual gases after the SO 2 condensation.
