<p>1474386 Throat pack I M VICKERY 8 July 1974 [18 April 1973] 18813/73 Heading A5R An oro-pharyngeal throat pack comprises a resiliently compressible moulding of polymeric foam material, having a central portion 40 for occlusion under compression of the oropharyngeal passage and a pair of lateral lobes 42 arranged for abutment against the posterior parts of the buccal sulci and adjacent pillars of the fauces, the central portion being shaped and dimensioned so that with the lobes in abutment with the buccal sulci, the occluding section of the central portion bears upwardly on the posterior border of the hard palate and downwardly onto the tongue in front of the foramen caecum so as to resist backward displacement of the tongue, the central portion including a part posterior to the occluding section having a lower surface which bears upon the tongue extending back to the foramen caecum and an upper surface which slopes downwardly and rearwardly to avoid appreciable pressure on the soft palate. The moulding may be provided with a moistureimpermeable layer on at least its posterior surface and with a tape extending from its central portion 40 or a pair of tapes 44 extending from the lobes.</p> |
