1438985 Stabilized vinyl chloride polymers ARGUS CHEMICAL CORP 6 Sept 1973 [7 Sept 1972] 41892/73 Heading C3P A vinyl chloride resin stabilizer composition which is liquid at 70‹ C. comprises at least one organotin mercaptocarboxylic acid ester having at least one tetravalent tin atom linked directly to a carbon atom and to a sulphur atom, one or two hydrocarbon groups linked to the tin atom and containing, each independently, from 1 to 18 carbon atoms and a mercaptocarboxylic ester grouping linked to a tine atom through a sulphur atom; Ca or Mg carbonate; and a Ca and/or a Mg salt of one or more aromatic acids containing S and having at least 20 C atoms acting as a liquefier for the carbonate, the weight ratio of organotin mercaptocarboxylic acid ester to the weight of combined carbonate and aromatic acid salt component being not less than 1 : 1. The Specification contains many examples of organotin esters of which the following are typical: n-butyl or n-octyl tin tris- (isooctyl thioglycolate), di-n-butyl, di-n-octyl or dimethyl tin di-(isooctyl thioglycolate) and corresponding esters derived from 3-mercaptopropionic, thiomalic and 2-mercaptomyristic acids. The aromatic acid salt may be calcium dodecyl or nonyl thiobisphenate, calcium dodecyl or polydodecyl benzene sulphonate or calcium or magnesium petroleum sulphonate. |
