摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of roll mark on a material to be rolled by making the length of an intermediate roll longer and reciprocating the roll in its axial direction in a cluster rolling mechanism formed by supporting work rolls by a pair of intermediate rolls and plural segmental backup rolls. CONSTITUTION:In the surface of an intermediate roll of a rolling mechanism where a segmental backup roll is used, a roll mark due to local friction is produced by a concentrated stress induced at the edge part of the segmental roll, which is transferred to a material to be rolled to form a roll mark in its surface. A stress-concentrated contacting part is dispersed by reciprocating the intermediate roll in its axial direction to prevent the intermediate roll from causing roll marks on its surface, thereby preventing the roll mark on the material.
