<p>A multi-mode light guide forming an optical fibre for use in e.g. an optical cable, is formed to be of relatively large dia. such as 100 mu m. The light guide consists of a solid core of a transparent material and formed of two or three concentric zones. Each zone has a constant index of refraction of the adjacent zone or different from the refractive indices of adjacent zones. The core is surrounded by a shell, with the refractive index n (r) of the shell and the successive adjacent core zones increasing from the shell to the innermost core zone. Thus the refractive index, n (r) depends on the radius (r) of the fibre.</p> |
