<p>The helical wire heating element, for space heaters, consists of two semicircular insulating supports (1,2) mounted between two parallel metal supports (3,4). One or more insulating spacers (6) with T-shaped slots set into their top and bottom edges are located between the metal supports. The whole assembly is rotated about the spacer's axis and the helical heating wire (10) with a central coaxial asbestos cord is wound lengthwise around the insulating supports (the latter have ridges as guides). The wires passing over the spacer are now displaced to the right and those passing below it are displaced to the left. The result is a cross-over. The advantage lies in speeding manufacture and increasing heat output.</p> |
