Treatment of natural polyamides and/or natural cellulose materials, in the form of wads, tapes, fibres, cloth or made up prods., comprises keeping them for >24 hrs. in an atmosphere contg. NH3 (pref. 0.5-100 wt. %). Treatment is pref. carried out at -34 to 100 degrees C at atmospheric pressure. It may be carried out in gas-permeable packages. In tests wads of wool wrapped in perforated plastic kept for 15 days in an atmosphere contg. 1-5 wt. % NH3 showed measurable supercontraction and the start of crimping. Cotton cloth treated 10 days at 0 degrees C in 15-30% NH3 showed 5% contraction in the weft and 8% in the warp.
|
