Low floor height bus - with engine under raised driving seat and with different positions for access to front (HU 28.3.77)

The bus has a low floor height, for easy access. The engine (6) is mounted under the raised platform supporting the driver's seat, for improved visibility. The offside front wheel (1) is mounted under the same platform. The nearside front wheel (2) is set in a different position, either back or forward from the offside wheel, to allow max. access throught the front doors, and through the space between the front wheels. The engine transmission has the gear box, torque converter and differential near the rear wheels, with a long drive shaft (19) along one side of the floor pan. The shaft can be fitted with a subsidiary flywheel, of small dia. The unreduced speed of the long drive shaft acts as a flywheel, and eliminates the larger dia. flywheel on conventional designs.
