Emulsions are prepd. from a viscous concentrate and a carrier liq. by feeding both liquids in metered proportions to a mixing chamber. The emulsion is first formed as a high concn. of concentrate in the carrier. This is then further dilated in a second stage to give the concn. needed The first emulsion is pref. created in a jet mixer device. This discharges into a mixing chamber to which more carrier liq. is added. Process is used in mfr. of cooling and lubricating emulsions for metal working. These are water suspensions of a viscous lubricant. Very dilate emulsions have the problem that if the lubricant is metered into a jet mixer at low rates, the metering device can cause periods where the jet pump is pulling a vacuum. The present method thus avoids the problem of clear water passing into the emulsion vessel, which can cause pivotable emulsion, damage to cutters and workpiece etc.
|
